MUM Deodorant

Title

MUM Deodorant

Subject

Hygiene & Toiletries

Description

Mums manufactured what is considered by many to be the first commercially available deodorant. It was a cream that came in a milk class container. The product claimed to neutralize body odors without clogging the pores or using strong perfumes. It was first locally available in Philadelphia but became a national brand in 1898.
We have the base of one of these containers, which has embossing, while the lid was smooth with a label. This particular glass container ceased production in 1929.
Ads for MUM in Atlanta newspaper began frequently appearing in the 1920s.

Embossing: MUM MFG CO / PHILA, PA
