<text>P. Ballantine & Sons Brewing Company was based in Newark, NJ. After the Prohibition era the company was bought by the Badenhausen brothers, who popularized the brand. At its peak in the 1940s and 50s, XXX was the third most popular beer in the US. However, in the 60s, its popularity began to decline and though it is still produced by Pabst today, it is not the original recipe. This can design was used for a few decades and since our can is so rusty it is hard to determine an exact date. Given that it was found with other cans dating to the 50s, that is a reasonable assumption for the date.
The can conveniently has the address of the brewery, 295 Madison Avenue, New York, NY.</text>
