<text>The only reference to Hagan & Dodd’s “Purity Brand” is in a 1906 newspaper advertisement where it is referred to as an extract.
The company was originally named the Hagan Brothers Company, but it was changed to the Hagan & Dodd Company in 1903, creating the terminus post quem for this bottle. It was renamed to the Red Rock Company in 1929, providing a terminus ante quem. Though the brand is apparently registered (as a trademark) according to the bottle, I was unable to find the trademark record in reports issued 1903-1919 and 1921-1925, despite finding ones for Red Rock and H&D’s other brands “Ko-Nut” in 1911 and “Long Green” in 1922 (neither of which are represented in the collection). “Purity” was a very common brand name for many types of food products.</text>
