It even retained the entire paper label nearly perfectly. Sure enough, Wild Russian Vanya was sold in the 1960s-70s, making it only around 15 years old at most when it was excavated. It was exclusively produced and sold in the southeast, it was not a Russian import at all. Wild Russian Vanya was a fortified wine, also known as bum wine. These were cheaply made wines with spirits, fruit flavors, and sugar mixed in. Specifically, it was peach flavored. The label clearly states it was produced and bottled by Grower's Outlet Atlanta. It is not to be confused with the plant nursery also named Grower's Outlet which shows no sign of ever bottling alcohol. The trademark was owned by Seaboard Beverage Co. in Jacksonville, Florida, filed in 1962 but first used in 1960. In Florida, the drink was bottled by Seaboard themselves. Smith "After years of success in construction, lumber, coal mining, and drug businesses, Thomas H. Austin organized the Koca Nola Company in the spring of 1904. The syrup factory and bottling plant was located at 108 Edgewood Avenue. The earliest ad appeared in the March 15th Atlanta Constitution classifieds with the drink name spelled 'Coca Nola.' The spelling was quickly changed to Koca Nola as the ads began the following claims: 'Koca Nola is the nicest, smoothest, softest, healthiest of all fountain drinks. Try it.'" The company was originally named the Hagan Brothers Company, but it was changed to the Hagan & Dodd Company in 1903, creating the terminus post quem for this bottle. It was renamed to the Red Rock Company in 1929, providing a terminus ante quem. Though the brand is apparently registered (as a trademark) according to the bottle, I was unable to find the trademark record in reports issued 1903-1919 and 1921-1925, despite finding ones for Red Rock and H&D’s other brands “Ko-Nut” in 1911 and “Long Green” in 1922 (neither of which are represented in the collection). “Purity” was a very common brand name for many types of food products. One listing for a silver cocktail server with the logo believes it was from the very beginning of the hotel's operations (it opened in 1913), but we cannot find a source for this. An image on Wikimedia Commons that dates to the 1910s appears to have chairs with the AH logo. The Dinkler Hotel Co. purchased the hotel in 1927 and it was named to Dinkler Plaza Hotel in 1953, making this plate increasingly unlikely to be from later than the 50s.
